Lost on the River is the end result of a folk-rock super-group assembled by producer T Bone Burnett, who was given the daunting task of transforming a stack of "lost" Dylan lyrics from 1967 into songs. Mimicking The Band's all-hands-on-deck approach to backing Dylan on the original Basement Tapes, the ensemble of Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens, Jim James, Taylor Goldsmith and Marcus Mumford switch up instruments and vocal duties in order to lend the music a collaborative feel. If you hang out at the intersection of Americana and NPR, you'll find plenty to explore among the album's 20 cuts.
