Pete Yorn, devilishly handsome in an unshaven kind of way, is an adult-alternative cream puff. Yet this doesn't mean his 2001 debut album isn't insanely catchy. Possessing a knack for modern heartland pop, the singer-songwriter is a crafty composer and sharp producer. Rootsy and earnest, Musicforthemorningafter bubbles with flavors nicked from Wilco, Son Volt, Whiskeytown and just about every other alt-country group of note the 1990s spat out. A musical chameleon to boot, Yorn also displays an Elliott Smith fixation on the album's more melancholic tracks: "Black," "June" and "Simonize."
