That title, Sonic Highways, refers to the how the Foo Fighters recorded each of the album's eight cuts in a different city (New York City, Nashville, Seattle and so on). They also enlisted help from a handful of guest musicians, including Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen, blues-rocker Gary Clark Jr. and the always killer Joan Jett. The outcome is yet another clutch of tunes -- from "Congregation" and "In the Clear" to "Something from Nothing" and the seven-minute "I Am a River" -- that testify to the Foos' knack for merging alt-quirk, power pop and classic rock into one catchy sound.
