A Ton of Love
Etichetta: Play It Again Sam
Editors' airy fourth album is expansive enough to make anyone forget there was a time they were chiefly tied to Interpol. The Birmingham quintet's appetite spans from orchestral stabs to slithering fuzz bass on "Sugar," new wave unplugged on "Formaldehyde" and creeping theater on "Two Hearted Spider." While none of the tunes have the sinister verve of "All Sparks" from their debut, Editors still do shiny arena-rock at its most tortured and bleak; hear how "Bird of Prey" uproots the crawl of U2's "With or Without You" with industrial drums and vocals that resemble The National's Matt Berninger.
